Art Museum

For this excursion visit your local art museum and walk through a gallery or the entire museum!  Arrange for a guided tour or wander on your own. 

Choose a favorite piece of art and sit on a bench to sketch it.  Art Students use this copying technique as part of their training to become an artist.  Use a pencil or colored pencils. 

Pay attention to the composition of the work of art, how it is divided up and where your eye is drawn.  Look for any implied movement* in the painting, drawing, photograph or sculpture. 

Think about the use of color and how it is important in the art piece. 

While you are there inquire about museum art classes for kids or the whole family.  Our local museum has a wonderful program which we have enjoyed over the years.  As with the Church Excursion: learn museum etiquette!
